BRAVE  VOICES 63-Grandma’s sweat bathes the statehouse tarmacs, Poverty shaved fathers are the glitter that replaced floodlights and stolen lampposts.Brother is the anointed fisherman catching political breams for the presidential roast.Ideological tutored memes sing praise anthems………..patronized .Singing praises to the republic’s red-carpet ……..they never stepped on. Protocol relegates them to the ragged edges of the republic,Mother’s tears rinse dishes after daily dictator’s banquets,August is a museum of spent cartridge that shat death on sister’s womb,……………..she birthed death. Sister and her bullet shredded fetus are now snoring sorrow under the rubble of elections cemetery.
January swallowed its conscience and munched grenade for dinner
November drizzled both waterfalls of blood and threads of hesitant laughter’s
…………… Nights of long knives …………November drizzle birthed another tyrant.
November! November! You are dictator.
Autocrat’s robes immersed in blood gems of Katanga. The African moon archived that in RED CAPITAL LETTERS.Hermits and slogan slingers donning dictator’s emblazoned doeks, jabbing the corrupt foul wind with pseudo –revolutionary jives dancing for the gwamandaizing , glutton, gobbling globetrotting gold cartels trendsetter. Kitchen cabinet frying small fish in autocratic pans and then enjoy the delicacies during dictator’s concert under the guise of shadows ……….ooh crocodile games. Grandma snores under the hill of villages packed like sardine until next ballot quadratics.
March, foot prints of dictators are scribbled all over the republic’s red carpet. April ,autocrats’ fingerprints are the signature of diamond cartels. May, tyrant’s thumbprint decorates the ragged bank note.June, lyrics on your doek are his campaign slogan.

AFRICA

KENNETH KAUNDA

My King is all clad in melanin
Like the dark black – Jack –
His might is that of the wild cat,
He’s a bold king
In the savage jungle of Northern Rhodesia,
The pride of place in the bundle of the lubwa.

My president is a mad black man
Mad
With absolute bravado like that of a Swan
Surfing rough waters.
He’s that mouth that mumbled
A hope anew that grew into a scary grumble,
A legit gamble –
A right card who stood up for his people
To solve the riddle of injustice and violence
That slapped and handicapped his kind
Both in body and mind…

Yes! He is the one
The one who snatched that crown
When he stabbed the jelly – belly
Of the beast pregnant with spite –
He’s the one that rendered barren the wicked womb
Who birthed rampageous pains and afflictions
That ransacked and devoured household of black men.

My President is black
Yes!
He’s that precious cloth
That stanched the flow of innocent blood –
The flood of blood that blotted his beloved motherland.

He is that cool breeze, that calm zephyr
That swept over Zambia
From the shores of the Zambezi
To the hills of the mighty mosi – O – Tunya,
Yes!
He is my black President
The name is Kenneth Kaunda.

 “A LEADERS PATH”

He used to be a teacher of mathematics and chemistry
who was always aware of devilry’s mystery
When darkness prevailed over Tanzanian soil,

the vines of nation suffered blight to spoil

the fruits of hope which could have been sweeter

But the harvester called poverty made it even bitter

The branches of life became fragile by bending

He came to impose measures to curb government spending

Thus, a patriot he remains caring for each resident

He is John Magufuli, the country’s fifth president

When from Cholera his countrymen were dying,

he was the one- resolved to save money from flying

away with the jubilance of the land’s independence

Now humanity loves to depend on the dependence

of peoples’ dream for future on a great leaders’ path,

When Tanzania is blessed to attain a rebirth,

THE DESPOT IN A FARMER’S HAT

In 1986, he changed the locks,
and swallowed the keys.
Hastily buried democracy and formed a communion of liars
in a parliament of thieves.
Wore the suit of the revolution, composed victory songs over Obote’s Government and promised freedom to visually impaired beggars.
Orphaned minds scrounging for left overs like the marabou storks that decorate the streets of Kampala.
Toothless men, and desperate mothers queueing behind a rigged ballot system, chanting, “No change!”

Face of dictatorship wears a skeleton shroud.
Struts about with robotic men with toy guns like a rooster.
Chest raised up like a pigeon.
Stands on the burial mound of electoral reform with a scythe and preaches ancient, and forgotten scripture to corrupt bellies.
Cow skulls are strewn on the expensive carpet in kyankwanzi slaughterhouse.
Gossiping flies hover around maggot infested meat while famine ravages the land.
Last night’s presidential banquet.

Young dreams are barricaded.
Change isn’t promised.
Future mudslides of failure are forecasted by the minister of disaster preparedness.
Purge the nation!
The gun, or mis-education.
The Despot in a Farmer’s hat plunders the Pearl of Africa’s treasure.

NOBILITY.

Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia
The first female President in an African Country she was
Credited with maintaining peace in her land Liberia
After been torn apart by years of civil war
We owe her a massive debt of gratitude.

Legacy she left, tangible and intangible
Freedom of speech was personal liberty in her era
Baking aspirations into women and young girls
Breaking the proverbial glass ceiling
Manifested so well as the elected first female President.

Prospects of an enduring democracy was evident
By her willingness to serve her constitutional terms
Management of transition and democracy to look forward to
And dismantling some of the severe barriers
That stood the way of Liberia setting on a durable path.

Eloquent she was, addressed critical national crisis
A restorer, restored civil society like multiparty democracy
A fighter, fought Ebola within and beyond her frontiers
A maintainer, maintained a stellar foreign policy
And an Awardee, the Nobel Peace Prize, International Awards she won.

AFRICAN PRESIDENT

Mine is merely a man of no honor
He dance to the barren sounds of
The barrel, his jingles are bayonets
That pierce innocent and decorous
Kins, they summon brothers to be
Mercernaries, slayers of resistance.
Yet he is muted call out for Justice.

MY PRESIDENT

In mighty splendor you came
like Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon
Pharaoh of Egypt and Amadou your father
Claiming self-righteous elite morality
Standing tall like supreme God and master
But like all iberation impostors
always did, ended with a bloody legacy
Anarchy’s your monarchical heirlooom
Orchestral tyrant birds, sycophantic oligarchs
akk round your glassy palace, feeding men
with propaganda, preferring friendship
of dogs that even when debased will still stay servile
Unlimitless power in one man’s hands
breeds routine control of behaviour
drunken with power you propelled
gears of narcissism that have rippled
into a genocidal hangover
Sir, you dished out
laisser- passer for laisser faire
Inertia has consolidated its grip
gliding into a slumberous stagnation
Oligarchy in a monarchy,
economacracy thriving manned
by Plutocrats,skilful manipulators
authors behind a collapsed state of vapid corruption,
grand theft and naked plunders of treasury
You leave at tether’s end trails of wanton destruction
horrendous carnage and heaps and heaps of human debris

A PLEA TO DEMAGOGUES

Are we going overboard
in the trading of epithets,
The fourth estate forever in quest
For the headline and story?

Are the learned ones
Treading the bad ways of their fathers
When barbs were bandied as policy
When brawn was mistaken for brain?

Is our memory short lived
Yet the smell of burning
Stifled voices of the dying
And long dead in their graves
Still hovers in Midnight’s noon?

EMMANUEL DOUGLAS MULOMOLE

THE PARADISE OF PEACE

The honest voice can really gleam the world
With the golden key of the paradise of peace
And care the lovely living with tranquil herald
And bring an eternal life with heavenly grace

Let’s assiduously edify the paradise of peace
Peace of showering the boundless lovability
Peace of bestowing an unadulterated affiance
Peace of bringing the truly deathless fidelity

Let’s care our children with paradise of peace
As the place where they can feel the freedom
Freedom from the purely nefarious injustice
Freedom from the soulfulness of thralldom

Let’s sing this song of the paradise of peace
In all levels without a glyph of discriminability
As the only remedy for chasing the wicked race
As the only message of spreading a humanity.

THOMAS SANKARA

Thomas Sankara!
Reposè la paix stallion honcho, the proud
Heart of a nation, your profound
Words raise you in a new form
To imagination, for the legacy,
To the floating flag of Ouagadougou
You composed the lyrics for its dance,
To the soul, you’re the vaccine of honesty,
To the economy, you’re the rains our thirsty soil yearns
To thrive it’s green gloss of glean,
Oh, the wind of central Africa is coy,
Slowly assassinating your structures,
On its tongue it holds your memory,
On its sleeves it folds your records,
Unwilling of your patriotism
That in fewer seconds
It spreads with autism,
On its unwilling wings your hard-work
Is squeezed like wonder-udder!

Father of Upper Volta
Face of grace in despair,
With cues from Ibrahim and Sarai’s vaults,
You changed your States appellation
To Bukina Faso, oh honesty, installation
That brought gender parity cancellation
And strained old curses and elms,
And brought forth the wits
The will and power without faults,
The zeal and zest with less tilts
And the preach of the upright men!
Oh, Noel, your name shoots high to stay at
The apex of society’s totem pole’s art,
Oh, the spirit of our mortal son,
Whose life shone like an alert sun,
Who’s never plaintive, never a malinger,
Done were you on freedom elate,
But pensive on logics did you stay to elect
Tethered with confidence for better.

Oh Mother, oh chest of Africa!
Realities are of life to view
And world stays fay with you,
Oh poverty, oh unending deaths,
The salves of your elixirs,
The only noises our poised fixers
Are helpless to duck, but Africa’s
Only trusting Thomas beyond the holy books,
That the world’s arms ever touched,
Awaken that sword of accurate leadership,
That knows no comedies and errors..
For you, only mortal you,
You are a child being a father of man
That caught my eye to admire!!

MY PRESIDENT.
Leader of your people where desert creeps into their broken pots with Sauce pans singing dirges over the gate keeper’s insatiable greed,

The eaters have eaten the Mugumo tree and the birds therein nested are empty intestines coiling in death pangs as the broth of the land drip into specialized pockets,

The Kenyan flag in perpetual mourning fly’s half-mast as half the population of paupers point with their sunken cheeks at the bulging necks of men farting from excess,

Those are the voters who put you in that seat Mr. President, with hope of change for better,

A snake has given birth in your backyard and it’s a nasty one and the gruesome chilling cry you hear is the dispossessed howling with agony of loss,

The paralysis you see on zombie movements of your people is hopelessness of a people under siege from greedy creeds to malicious managers of the lands resources,

The sound of corruption gathers momentum as it rounds courts and benches of men of letters, where justice has been butchered with flair and aplomb, and guilty is freed for the price of cash,

The accuser bites the dust of defeat twice over, as youths come tumbling down the sewer of drug kings and drug queens alleys,

The land once ever green now grows dirt in brown parches of bloody looting as the price of joblessness writes testimonies of hopelessness on the faces of children and their parents,

Their tomorrow is held ransom by debts to the third and fourth generation, as Silence is getting rowdy with impatience at the wheel of change,

A change that shall recognize effort and a change that shall be judged fair and allowed hope true, for the land bends to a force dark,
Here, Bible reality is heresy in acts, and elders are rude rapist of righteous behavior as the tribal card hoists the National flag aloft, where last names and favoritism rhyme,

Equity in and of life, O dear Mr. President is a Bitterness of a cold gripping terror that runs underground for a while,

Where it simmers and ferments into a rampage and harangue of unruly bickering that shall inform excerpts of your legacy unless this scandalous gerrymandering is shone off with speed.

If you don’t catch the drift of this woeful song that millions of Kenyans are silently singing, every day when faced with taxes and debt collectors.

Corruption has grown roots long and wide, and is inviting a brotherhood dark and ugly from abroad,
As the rheumy eyes of your people still beg for what is theirs by right.
JUSTICE AND FAIR PLAY
